Top Software Developer Recruitment Methods

It doesn’t matter if you’re a hiring manager in need of a long-term solution or a tech recruiter looking to fill your pipeline with top-flight talent – efficient software developer recruitment is important to your bottom line, but the market is competitive.

To make things a bit easier, we’ve compiled a few of our favorite ways to successfully recruit (and hire) qualified software developers. Check them out below.

Our Favorite Software Developer Recruitment Strategies

  • Networking and Personal Referrals

Software developer recruitment is exponentially easier when you either have a pool of software developers and tech professionals within your own network or have a trusted connection who can refer you to qualified candidates with specific skills and abilities. The best part? Because you are drawing from your own network, these candidates come at least partially vetted, greatly reducing the risk of a hiring catastrophe. If possible, personal referrals are the way to go but let’s face it – not everyone has a network of highly skilled software designers, developers, and engineers to call upon.

  • LinkedIn, Indeed, and other Job Boards

Since taking over for the newspaper classified ads, online job boards and networking sites like Indeed and LinkedIn have become among the first places people look when hiring software developers and other important technical positions. This is both a blessing and a curse – on the one hand, the fact that everybody uses these resources increases the volume of software developers you have access to. On the other hand, it also increases the competition. Everybody, including major multinational companies, is at least partially invested in these sites for their software developer recruitment.

  • Contract-to-Hire Job Placements

One of the quickest ways to recruit and hire software developers is through contract-to-hire job placements. Essentially, you are hiring a software developer on a trial period rather than making a major long-term investment. This allows you to broaden the pool of candidates. It also allows you to see how a candidate will perform within your organization before committing to them long-term. This benefit, it should be noted, works both ways: developers can decide if the position/company is right for them before moving forward. Contract-to-hire software developers can be recruited directly from Indeed or LinkedIn, but more often they are sourced through recruitment agencies or individual tech recruiters.
